The Labrador Friendship Centre is currently accepting applications for the position of Cook Full Time.

Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Business and Property Manager and the Guest Relations Coordinator, the Cook staff will carry out the following duties:
• Preparation, cooking and serving of meals, which includes meats, fish, vegetables, traditional food, gravies, etc.
• Oversee staff engaged in serving meals, cleaning cooking area, and serving patrons.
• Prompt efficient service in the work area.
• Prepare salads, pastries, deserts and special diets as required.
• Assist in maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen.
• Assist in the serving of meals and cash register operation when needed.
• Operation of steam tables and of tea and coffee dispensing equipment.
• Prepare food orders each morning or evening as required.
• Check equipment, kitchen, and related areas for cleanliness.
• Preparing and catering to special luncheons and dinners.
• Other related work as required

Qualifications:

• Graduation from high school preferably supplemented by completion of a course in food service and preparation or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Experience as a Cook or Food Service Worker in a restaurant/institutional dining room is desired but not essential.
• Skill in preparing staple food stuffs and baked goods.

Other

• Knowledge of serving duties and food service.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and clients.
• Ability to train new employees in the techniques of food handling and serving meals.
• Knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing food on a quantity basis and of the use and care of utensils and equipment.
• Knowledge of health hazards in food preparation and service and of effective precautionary measures.
• Ability to work while standing and under conditions of high temperature.
• Ability to work from written menus and recipes.

Assets:
• Knowledge of Labrador Indigenous cultures.
• Knowledge of an Indigenous language.
• Indigenous or of Indigenous ancestry.

Hours:

• 77 hours bi-weekly.

Wages:
• $13.60 per hour plus benefits.

The Labrador Friendship Centre is currently accepting applications for the position of Security/Guest Relations Full Time.

Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Business and Property Manager and the Guest Relations Coordinator, the Security/Guest Relations staff will carry out the following duties:
• Accurately maintain reservation sheets and guest log book.
• Correctly register incoming and outgoing tenants.
• Maintain an accurate account of float, sales, and confectionary inventory.
• Perform security checks of the Centre.
• Perform janitorial duties as needed.
• Other related duties as required.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Must provide a code of conduct from the RCMP.

Assets:
• Knowledgeable of Labrador Indigenous cultures.
• Knowledge of Indigenous language.
• Indigenous or Indigenous ancestry.

Wages:
• $11.65 per hour plus benefits.

Kitchen Helper

The mission of the Labrador Friendship Centre is to endeavour to provide the best possible services to enrich the lives of the Inuit, Innu, and Métis of Labrador through the provision and implementation of social, cultural, health, educational, and developmental initiatives.

The Labrador Friendship Centre is currently accepting applications for the position of Kitchen Helper.

Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Business and Property Manager and the Guest Relations Coordinator, the Kitchen Helper will carry out the following duties:
• Food preparation tasks and serves meals.
• Assists in the cooking of meals.
• Operates cash register.
• Cleans kitchen area, equipment, and utensils.
• Cleans and sets-up tables.
• Washes dishes, pots, pans, steam trays, refrigerators, coolers, and other equipment.
• Sweeps and mops dining room floor after each meal period.
• Assists with catering.
• Other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
• Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Must provide a code of conduct from the RCMP.
• Experience in the food service industry.
Assets:
• Knowledgeable of Labrador's Indigenous culture.
• Ability to speak a Labrador Indigenous Language.
• Indigenous or have Indigenous ancestry.
Wages:
• $11.65 per hour plus IPA and 4% vacation pay.
Hours:
• Up to 73.5 hours bi-weekly.
