The Pilot Project
The Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education has partnered with the Labrador Friendship Centre to bring the Adult Basic Education Level 1 Pilot Project to students in the Happy Valley-Goose Bay region. The project will, for the first time, offer students an ABE Level 1 program completely through online learning.
Up to 12 students will be enrolled. These students will be loaned a new laptop computer and a printer/scanner with which to complete their program. Students will also be offered an orientation at the beginning of the program to familiarize them with the technology and online learning components of the program. After that, students will complete the required components of the ABE Level 1 program from the comfort of their own home, according to their own schedule.
Students will have access to their instructor on a regular basis in the online learning environment, plus they will be able to meet with the instructor in person should the need arise.
